SPELLING BEE WINNERS!

Congratulations to our elementary school winners!

Going to the final competition representing Grade 5 were Ndeye Amy and Bilkisu for English Language Arts. Maryam won both the English Second Language and French preliminary competitions. ALHUMDULILAH.

THE FINAL COMPETITION WAS HELD FRIDAY 30 OCTOBER.

Dye dispersion experiment - Science is cool!

Assalamu alaikum!

It looks like we are sipping some Kool aid right? 

 We are currently learning about Energy in Science. Our experiment is to find out what temperature makes our dye disperse faster. Most students knew that hot water made the dye disperse faster but they had some difficulties explaining why. Here are some pictures.

Each set of cups contains ice water, warm water and hot water.

GRADE 5 WEEKLY PROGRESS CHART

Students receive each week a weekly progress chart.
Please make sure that you see it and sign it!

Here are the points that we check everyday. We also have a class discussion at the end of the day to see if we are all in agreements on all decisions made!

Dictionaries

Students will obligatorily need an English language dictionary for English Language Arts. Once a week, our class centres on dictionary work and vocabulary acquisition.

Folders

Students should have a folder for Mathematics, English, French, Social Studies and Science. Folders should be the simple kind where you can just insert the paper into the sleeves.

DIBELS and Title I testing this week!

I hope that you are all having a good week!

This week, we will be doing two American standardized tests : DIBELS and TITLE I.

What are DIBELS?

The Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS) are a set of procedures and measures for assessing the acquisition of early literacy skills from kindergarten through sixth grade. They are designed to be short (one minute) fluency measures used to regularly monitor the development of early literacy and early reading skills.

What is Title I (Mathematics and English Language Arts)?

These tests:

• measure students' profiency in academic subjects
• are aligned with state content standards
• provide coherent information about student attainment of such standards

At IQRA, we will periodically be testing students until the end of the year. Students' literacy, reading skills and math skills are expected to improve as the months pass inshaAllah.
